Sarah and Tomas Marsh have been teaching yoga for a combined 45 years. They have studied under some of the greatest yoga masters in the world including Marilyn Barnett, Bikram Choudhury, Baron Baptiste, Richard Freeman, Jhon T, John Friend, Deb Flashenberg, Lois Nesbitt, and Sandra Sommerfield-Kozak. Their teaching techniques and school curriculum reflect the culmination of their knowledge and experience with an emphasis on safe practice, meticulous alignment, modifications for every body, and the wisdom of the Sutras. In 1997, Sarah opened the first ever Manhattan Hot Yoga studio, Yoga Connection, where she stayed for seven years. During that time, she was hired by The New York Football Giants to train the team for pre-season conditioning. She worked closely with Amani Toomer, Michael Strahan, and Tiki Barber among others. Her other high profile clients include: Scott Wolfe, Martha Stewart, Molly Simms, Gina Gershon, Drew Barrymore, Anastasia, and Robin Strasser. Sarah and Tomas now teach on-site Yoga for groups and private clients. They have run, and continue to offer many Corporate on-site Yoga programs in the Jersey City and NYC area. Corporate clients, past and present, include Sony Music Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, SAP, Clover Health, Barnabas Health Women’s Health Center, First Brokers Securities, Graze, True Entertainment, Kenneth Cole, FCB Cure, The Westin Hotel, and Mack-Cali Realty among others. Currently, Sarah and Tomas bring various forms of yoga to several residential facilities in Jersey City as well, including the A Condominiums, Hamilton House, Crystal Point and The Art House. Since 2009, Sarah and Tomas have offered Yoga Alliance accredited Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training, Pre/Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training, Corporate Yoga Training, and Kids' Yoga Teacher training. They are deeply entrenched in the Jersey City culture, and honored to be bringing yoga to this beautiful, diverse, artistic community. They have one fantastic kid named Cody who is heading into High School, plays basketball and soccer, but does NOT practice yoga, unless his mom drags him to class. They call Jersey City home, love the community, and often play music in local venues. Tomas is also the Director of JC Rock School, a new after school program for kids ages 8 to 14 who want to learn songs and rock out on stage.
Melanie Ann Llanes: ryt. Group yoga instructor; TT Anatomy & Physiology
Melanie is FlorYoga's Anatomy and Physiology instructor. She has a Bachelor of Science in Applied Kinesiology from Rutgers University. She received her Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher 200 and Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher certifications from FlorYoga in 2012 and has been teaching yogis of all backgrounds: first-timers, pregnant women, competitive athletes, as well as those with a history of chronic illness or injury. She has taught a wide range of age groups, with students from 3 to 83 years old. When Melanie is not adjusting a downward dog pose or practicing her headstand, she is pursuing her passion in rehabilitation services as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant.
Autumn perez: e-RYT & RPYT. group yoga, pre/postnatal yoga, co-director floryoga teacher trainings
Autumn Perez is a certified FlorYoga Yoga Alliance 200 RYT, and graduate of FlorYoga's Pre/Postnatal advanced Teacher Training RPYT, a Power Pilates instructor, and dancer. Autumn has studied dance & movement for many years, and has a B.F.A. in Dance from Montclair State University. Having been integrated in the physical fitness world for quite some time, her classes are a well rounded amalgamation of exercises and yoga poses that are geared to invigorate the body, nourish the mind, and awaken the spirit. Autumn has taught and continues to teach yoga, Pilates, and Dance classes and Private sessions all over Jersey City and the surrounding areas. She believes that movement heals the mind, the body, and the soul. When we take care of what is sacred to us mentally, physically, and spiritually, we are freeing ourselves to live and be our most honest selves. Autumn is the Co-Director of FlorYoga’s teacher trainings, and also offers Chakra and Core workshops.
tani mills: life coach, 60-day transformation
Tani Mills is living a life of purpose. She has implemented and championed strategies that leveled the playing field of opportunity that lead to personal transformation and growth. As a senior executive with over two decades of experience of running a social enterprise, thousands of individuals were connected to work and the hope for a better future. An experienced executive consultant, recruiter and Motivator-in -Chief, Tani has worked with global audiences to discuss the importance of personal development, empowerment, and using their platform to serve as a catalyst for change. As a certified Life Skills Coach rooted in mindfulness, Tani embraces and fosters the concept of positive chi: a life of balance and flow. Tani coaches her clients to focus on developing a growth mindset; the ability to see what is possible as they navigate towards finding their True North Star- a fulfilling life. To enhance her yoga practice, Tani uses meditation and Pranayama, or, yoga breathing exercises based on Buddhist and Ayurveda traditions as part of her lifestyle. Tani has a BS in Criminal Justice and a MA in Forensic Psychology.
gabrielle olson: private, semi-private, group yoga instructor
Graduating Yoga Teacher training in 2018, Gabrielle Olson (Gabby) takes pride in her attention to detail, positive attitude and playful nature. Her creative and thoughtful approach to both group and private yoga classes creates an engaging environment for her students which brings about valuable results.
Gabby came to yoga through a passion for wellness and healthy living. Moving to NYC 7 years ago, she found the pace of the city exciting, and yet a bit stressful. She turned to fitness and wellness to keep herself centered as a country girl transitioning to city living. Gabby became even more passionate about yoga a few years ago, and started taking classes at studios like Yoga Works and Pure Yoga in NYC. When deciding where to train for teaching, Gabby found FlorYoga. She will be pursuing more advanced training this year, and is interested in working with corporate clients, moms and children.
She now looks forward to sharing mindfulness at her workplace at CBS news, and is excited to continue learning and teaching Yoga.
Lisa Ludwig: group yoga, private yoga, and kids’ yoga instructor
Lisa joined the FlorYoga family in 2013 after a summer of classes in beautiful Van Vorst Park. A lover of the serenity found in nature, Lisa’s teaching style reflects a balance of building physical strength and stopping to smell the flowers. Her classes focus on calming and empowering, using the breath to bring awareness and peace to the true self. Lisa is certified by FloYoga to teach yoga with a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification, Kid’s yoga certification, and Pre - and Postnatal certification. She also completed her Restorative Yoga training this past year. Off the mat, her career in education and social work focuses on issues impacting women and children, including work with survivors of gender-based violence, urban youth, and individuals with physical and behavioral disabilities. Lisa is always growing her knowledge through experiences and reflection.
kimie mittman: Director of kids yoga teacher training
Kimie studied Early Childhood Development & Family Studies/ Special Education at West Virginia University, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Psychology, with a focus on Applied Behavior Analysis at Capella University.
Kimie completed her 200-hour Yoga Certification 5 years ago with the amazing Stacey Bell at Garden State Yoga, and has been teaching non-stop ever since. She is currently the Director of Powerflow Yoga Kids, and she teaches adult yoga classes at many studios and schools, as well as teaching kids classes, trainings, and professional development workshops all over northern NJ and New York City.
Kimie's long term goals are to integrate the modalities of yoga and mindfulness-based interventions into her work as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and to continue to share yoga with as many kids and adults as possible. Kimie will be heading up FlorYoga’s Weekend Kids Yoga Teacher training taking place this Summer at Barrow Mansion.
michelle foreman: group yoga, private yoga & pre/postnatal
Michelle has been in the fitness arena for over 15 years. She began her career as a group exercise instructor and Personal Trainer focusing on instructing and motivating others towards their personal fitness goals. Michelle started her yoga journey over 8 years ago as a form of exercise, but now incorporates the teachings of yoga on and off the mat.
Her motto "get people off the couch" is about inspiring and motivating her clients to find activities and live a lifestyle that will help them achieve their personal growth, and reach goals they cannot on their own.
CERTIFICATIONS: ACE Certified Personal Trainer, WITS Certified Personal Trainer, 200 hour FlorYoga Certified instructor, pursuing certification in Pre-natal yoga and Health Coaching. CPR, First Aid and AED certified
hera kim: group, private and semi-private yoga instructor
Hera got into yoga through a desire to explore wellness, and fell in love with it right away, because it provided her a meditative and personal way to reflect on her busy day to day life, keeping her grounded, while getting healthy. After every yoga class, she came out of the class feeling lighter, more calm, and super confident. She then started looking for ways deepen her practice, and yoga studies, found FlorYoga, and completed her 200-hour teacher training in 2018. By becoming a yoga teacher, Hera is fulfilling her to dream to help others to begin practicing yoga, and see yoga as an integral part of their lives. Hera believes that yoga is a lifestyle, and that yoga teachers can teach their students to practice the principles of yoga on and off their mats every day. She thinks of yoga as a path to wellness, and a life long journey.
Hera will be taking Prenatal training this Spring with FlorYoga, and looks forward to then working with moms, and families to bring safe practice to them as they move through pregnancy, childbirth & beyond.
LYNN PROWITT: health and wellness
Lynn Prowitt is a veteran health and wellness writer and editor, with deep expertise in nutrition. Once editor-in-chief of a magazine called GreatLife: Nondrug approaches to health and well-being, Lynn's career has spanned low-calorie, low-fat, low-carb, vegan, gluten-free and everything in between. She was an editorial consultant for South Beach Diet and Atkins Nutritionals, and on the editing teams for Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution, Atkins’ Diabetes Revolution and other Atkins books. In recent years, she was the food and nutrition editor for a diabetes company called dLife. She has also worked for Reader’s Digest, Health, Self, Newsweek, Golf Digest, Life, More, Ladies’ Home Journal, and The Washington Post. Lynn has a master's degree in psychology. Lynn lives in Fairfield, Connecticut, with her husband, son, dog & chickens.
stacey lea flanagan: group, private & prenatal Yoga teacher
STACEY LEA FLANAGAN practices yoga to find balance and strength in a chaotic world. She spends her days helping others, as the Jersey City Director of Health and Human Services, so Yoga is a way for her to help herself. Her 25 years experience in nonprofit management and government administration is focused on health, wellness, and poverty alleviation.
Stacey is a graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in Political Science, holds an MS in Nonprofit Management from Milano the New School for International Affairs, Urban Policy and Management.
Stacey completed her 200 Hour RYT from Flor Yoga in 2017, prenatal certification in 2018, and is currently expanding her yoga studies with the Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science.
RYS 200, KIDS Yoga, Corporate Yoga
Lauren is an RYT 200 Vinyasa yoga instructor. She gained her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Training through FlorYoga. Lauren was introduced to yoga in 2002, and has been taking classes and practicing since. She dove deeper into her practice in 2012 to find anxiety relief from the stresses and pressures of daily life. When she discovered the benefits of connecting breath and body movement while remaining present, she was hooked!
Her classes incorporate the playfulness of Vinyasa flow with the mindfulness alignment and breath-work, with an eclectic music set list playing in the background. Lauren has also completed training programs through FlorYoga in Corporate and Children’s yoga. She is committed to physical training in a variety of different disciplines.
When Lauren isn’t teaching yoga or doing her own practice, she works as an elementary school teacher.
janine diangelo: private & group yoga, kids yoga & corporate yoga
Janine, RYT, began practicing yoga to help relieve stress as she adjusted to a busy life in New York City. Always trying to perfect the balancing act of working long hours in the advertising industry with her personal life, she found an anchor in yoga and soon after meditation. By practicing yoga and meditation, she felt a deep connection to herself that she had never felt before, helping her work through anxiety and stress that was starting to plague her as she navigated through her journey. Yoga became a way of life- giving her the ability to look deep into herself, to help find out who she truly was and to be that best version of herself in all facets of life. She found herself wanting to learn more and more, taking workshop after workshop, finally feeling a strong calling to share these gifts with others as she deepened her practice. She completed her 200 hour teacher training in the fall of 2017 and has a passion for helping others de-stress and find clarity in their everyday life as she did. Janine currently continues her journey in advertising and marketing, as well as sits on the board of a non-profit yoga organization, Hosh, helping to make wellness accessible to the people that need it most.
